My only extensive experience of organized religion was the Jehovah's Witnesses. My imprisonment in that sect was mercifully brief. However, my experience with the "borned agin" crowd is very extensive. I have family who are "borned aginers" as well as neighbors and co-workers. Thery sure do love to yak yak yak and jabber jabber jabber about "JEEE zus" but they don't really obey Jesus. They "obey Jesus" on the superficial easy matters, but thats it. If you too are sick and tired of their cheap grace and easy believism, this is for you.

Yahweh obviously was not considered byJesus to be the Heavenly Father. It's not that difficult to see or understand. Highly intellectual and abstract/technical discussions of questions such as these are interesting, but I highly doubt that Jesus thought in such rarified terms and concepts. Bringing one's mind a bit closer to planet Earth is a good idea in understanding the thoughts of an ancient rabbi. The Gospel of John had a hard time being accepted as canonical and this is one of the many reasons.

Do we need to experience the bad to know the good??

inspired by a few posts from the 'suffering' thread, i pose the above question.. is it really necessary to experience or even know of evil deeds in order to appreciate good, benevolence, peace.. certain peoples and indigenous tribes have lived in peace and probably still do with little, if any, disturbance and malevolence within their communities.

they don't need evil to appreciate good, surely.. one current headline story over here in britain is of a 7yr old girl murdered, shot in the back by a drug dealer because she'd seen his face.

he's just got 40yrs in jail.

No. I don't need to read about or see children being kidnapped, beaten, tortured, raped, sodomized, stabbed, strangled, and dismembered in order to appreciate the good. I don't need millions of starving children to appreciate how well off I am. The fact that you ask this questions reveals you are thinking in highly abastract "clinical" terms and not in concrete terms. The question is easily answered by moving from the abstract to the concrete.

Hello Brigid. My "girlfriend" and I are now officially engaged. We don't plan on a long engagement or a big wedding. We plan on driving to Arizona and being married beside the Grand Canyon. As for Linda, she's definitely the brains and beauty and I'm not quite sure what it is exactly that I bring to the table. To my delight, she loves me anyway. Her parents became Witnesses several months before she turned nineteen and she moved out as a result. During their indoctrination period with the Witnesses they had become quite obnoxious about "the Truth." I don't think her parents really expected Linda to simply depart. Yet she did, and we met at the local library. We were both looking for some good anti-JW material. So we sat down and compared notes and soon we were dating. At five feet ten she's an inch taller than I am and quite an athlete. The first time she decided to frighten a Witness, I was sending them on their way when Linda leapt out the door and began a full volume tirade about children who had died from being denied blood transfusions. She literally got right in their faces, perhaps an inch or two away, and was shouting full volume. One of them hurried away, but the older man in his mid forties was speechless and visibly frightened. He too then hurried away as Linda followed him to the sidewalk. The fellow didn't even go to the next house. He got in his car, when his friend was waiting, and drove away. She's done this several more times. Now that we've moved into our own home we've not yet been visited. I know we will though. I'll warm them up with a few lies about being a warlock and then Linda will leap out and cause them to shit their pants!

i watched a history channel show re: the antichrist.

very interesting with different perspectives for the books of daniel and revelations.

one thing that really got me thinking...the book of revelations--they state that it may symbolize things that were happening during that period of time...not things to come.

Hello Tan. Yes, I tried to watch a program that fits that description, but became very bored and took everyone for a drive instead. I don't believe in prophecy so yes, I am firmly convinced that Revelation is about the past. More interesting however is the fact that the Greek in which the book is wirtten is terrible Greek. I have read that it is utterly dissimilar to the Greek style in the gospel and letters ascribed to John. It's very badly written, utilizing very poor grammer and a much more limited vocabulary than the gospel of John. I have only read this, however. I don't read Greek so I cannot personally vouch for this.

Hello. I don't watch much TV so I'm not familiar with my television alter ego. I do have an interest in science though, a laymans interest. It was a discussion of evolution that sparked my involvement with the Jehovah's Witnesses.

My girlfriends little sister isn't a Witness. She was merely forced to go to meetings most of her life. She lives with us even though she is twenty one because of some residual problems brought on my her long internment in the sect. On a conscious level she doesn't believe any of it but she must believe some of it on a sub conscious level. She has difficulty coping and holding a job as well as night terrors. So we do what we can.

I see by some of the messages here that the sect is in the news for pedophilia. I'm surprised. I came to the conclusion that the watchtower sect is made up of some odd and unfriendly people, but pedophilia? It's a shock. Now I am wondering if perhaps a certain soemone is having night terrors because of such activities. This will have to be vigorously pursued by a professional now. I'm glad I found this message board. Pedophile activity would explain a lot, a lot more than just the night terrors. Anyway, thank you for the welcome.

For two years I studied but never was baptized. When it began to dawn on the JWS that I wasn't going to be baptized the friendliness dried up and I got the message. We have fun with the JWS who come to our door. I like to tell them I am a warlock and watch them get uncomfortable. My girlfriend likes to tell them she is disfellowshipped even though she isnt. She has even followed them out to the sidewalk yelling at them. Its really funny to see. Anyway, hello.
